You are in Partnership Services for PartnerSource. What does that entail?
We work as a team with the attorneys to consult on occupational injury claims. The claim administrators involve us at critical points in the process to advise on options. That way, we can help to ensure consistency on administration of the plan, as well as helping to evaluate any potential liability exposure for our clients, as well.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your work?
I enjoy the fact that my job has a technical and analytical side, and also provides me the opportunity to interact with so many great people. I also love the variety in that there’s always something different about each claim. There is not always a clear-cut answer; there’s subjectivity in it and we approach making those decisions as a team with the employer and claim administrator. It takes thinking through all of the facts and involving the right partners. I also appreciate my PartnerSource team. This group of people I work with has such a high motivation to make a positive impact to the industry. As a team, we work to create an amazing product that helps our client’s employees get well. Because PartnerSource has a positive mission, our work environment is upbeat, which makes it a joy to be there.
What was your first job?
I grew up in a small town in Illinois [Charleston] and like most small towns, there is a Dairy Queen. During a summer break in high school, a girlfriend and I worked there for our first jobs. I still remember how to make that curly Q on the top of an ice cream cone.
How do you spend your down time?
My horse has been my hobby for about 10 years now. I grew up on a farm but we didn’t really have animals. My daughter, Jordan, who’s now 25, was gaga over horses from the time she was four years old. Every Barbie had its own horse! She started riding when she was eight, took lessons for years, and we eventually we bought her a horse. It didn’t take long until I wanted a horse, too. By the time she was in high school, we were both competing. It was so much fun. We don’t compete any more, but I still love spending my time doting on all my animals and being outdoors.
Favorite vacation spot?
For me, I like exploring new places, so it’s not often I go back to the same place. This past summer, my daughter and I went to Italy. It was our first time going to Europe! I also recently went to Belize, which was so beautiful. I love going to the beach and anywhere sunny so I would definitely go back there anytime. I’m working on next year’s vacation destinations now which may include the Florida Keys, Prince Edward Island, maybe even Portugal. I don’t know if I will make to all of those places, but the planning and anticipation of the trip is half the fun.
